Friends of the Koala is a non-profit community group run by volunteers fighting to save Northern NSW’s vulnerable koalas.
Featuring the great Australian character actor Alexander Petersons, this commercial was shot in the iconic Bangalow Pub – written and directed by Aliison Kelly.
Friends of the Koala operate a 24 hour rescue phone and service for sick, injured and orphaned koalas. Koalas are cared for at their Koala Care Centre at 23 Rifle Range Rd, Lismore, NSW or in home care with amazing home-carers. Critically ill koalas are transferred to either Currumbin Wildlife Hospital in QLD or the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital in Beerwah, QLD.
They also have a native plant nursery attached to the Care Centre providing koala food trees at a nominal price to local landholders, and the proceeds from all native plant sales go towards the cost of koala care.
Friends of the Koala play an active role in restoring valuable koala habitat in the Northern Rivers Region and also encourage landholders to plant, maintain and look after remnant vegetation.
They actively support research, in particular about disease affecting koalas, and assist in mapping current koala populations and their distribution.
